My name is Vincent Young and Cranial Gunk is my blog.

For close to 20 years, Cranial Gunk has been my reading journal and diary, a steamer trunk where I’ve packed my opinions, observations, and stray thoughts. Here you’ll find book reviews, commentary on movies and television, photography, writing projects, and occasional reflections on whatever happens to be bouncing around my brain.

A huge chunk of my childhood was spent watching TV, reading comic books, and making up stories in my head. Now well into adulthood, I still spend a lot of my time watching TV, reading, and making up stories (I write them down now. It’s therapeutic.)

I’m open to a broad range of subjects and styles but am particularly drawn to visually surreal science fiction, supernatural fiction, and stories that haunt my head way after I’ve read/watched/heard them. You can see the kinds of books I like on my Goodreads.

Photography is another thing I do. At conventions or just out on the street you might see me fumbling with my Nikon, taking more pictures than I know what to do with. You can see some of them on my Flickr and Instagram.

Cranial Gunk was mine way before this blog. It started as the name of a poem I wanted to write. Then in the 90s, it was the domain name I chose for the Go Daddy site I built while teaching myself HTML. It’s grown with me and become a record of my evolution as a writer and, to a degree, a photographer.

Unless otherwise noted, all writing, photographs, and artwork featured here are my original work. The exceptions are screenshots, scans, or images used for commentary and review purposes.
